Clean maritime fuels investment approved for the Netherlands
In the UK, GasWorld reported that The European Commission has approved Dutch plans to invest $117 million in green hydrogen and e-methanol-fuelled ships to decarbonize the country’s maritime fleet.
Coming under a Dutch state aid scheme, the funds will be used to purchase green hydrogen and e-methanol-fuelled vessels, and to retrofit existing ships with propulsion systems running on the fuels.
With direct grants expected to be awarded between 2027 and 2031, the scheme will assist with the high upfront costs, according to the report.
Passenger and cargo vessels, as well as work boats operating short-sea routes are covered by the scheme, it added.
