DHL Express secures its supply of SAF at Madrid airport through Moeve

July 30, 2026 |

In Spain, DHL Express and Moeve have announced the signing of an agreement for the purchase of sustainable aviation fuel at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport.

Under the agreement, DHL Express will purchase approximately 2 million US gallons of SAF over a one-year period, from July 2026 to June 2027. This volume is expected to cover approximately 50% of DHL Express’s fuel consumption at its Madrid hub.

The SAF supplied under the agreement is produced from waste and by-products, as defined in Parts A and B of Annex IX of the EU Renewable Energy Directive, including materials such as used cooking oil.

“Sustainable aviation fuel is one of the most effective tools we currently have to reduce emissions from air freight. This agreement with Moeve allows us to significantly increase the use of SAF at one of our main European hubs, our Madrid International Hub, and demonstrates how collaboration across the entire aviation value chain can accelerate the transition to lower-emission logistics. By securing SAF volumes equivalent to approximately half of our fuel consumption in Madrid, we are making significant progress toward our goal of increasing SAF usage to 30% by 2030,” said Tomás Holgado, Vice President of Aviation at DHL Express Spain.
