South Korea puts alternative-fuel infrastructure in top port plan
In South Korea, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has placed LNG, methanol, ammonia and hydrogen infrastructure in the country’s highest-level statutory plan for the port sector. The four-year plan covers 31 commercial ports and 31 coastal ports.
LNG, methanol and ammonia bunkering infrastructure is planned at Ulsan, Pyeongtaek-Dangjin and Busan to improve access for vessels using alternative marine fuels. Ulsan will also receive hydrogen production and storage facilities.
Daesan Port will develop a clean energy cluster with green hydrogen and ammonia production, storage and distribution capabilities. The plan also calls for a repair complex at Busan New Port that can provide inspection and maintenance services for large and alternative-fuel vessels.
