China launches methanol shipping supply chain alliance

In China, the Water Transport Science Research Institute and China Transportation News Agency launched a 20-member Methanol Fuel Shipping Supply Chain Innovation Alliance at the China Navigation Day event on July 11 to accelerate large-scale methanol use by linking fuel production, supply, bunkering, ports, vessel operators, equipment manufacturers and industry groups.

Alliance members cover the full chain needed to move methanol from producers to ships. Participants include COSCO Bulk Cargo Transport, China Yangtze River Shipping Group, Shandong Port Group, Sinopec fuel and sales units, China Marine Bunker, Shanghai Port Group Energy, Shenzhen Port Energy Development and several marine engine manufacturers.

The alliance will work on supply coordination, technology development, shared resources and common planning, policies and standards. Its stated goal is a safe, efficient, economical and reliable methanol fuel supply chain for shipping.
