Korea Shipping Association begins certified biofuel supply to domestic carriers

July 8, 2026 |

In South Korea, the Korea Shipping Association received ISCC EU trader certification on July 2 and began supplying certified marine biofuel to domestic shipping companies. The association received the certificate from the Korea Quality Foundation at its headquarters in Seoul.

The certification covers the association’s role in arranging fuel distribution between refiners and shipping companies. It requires traceability and mass-balance accounting from raw-material sourcing through production, distribution and final delivery to vessels.

The association said it reviewed its internal supply procedures and established a system to document transactions throughout the marine biofuel supply chain. ISCC EU certification allows fuel suppliers and buyers to demonstrate compliance with European Union sustainability and greenhouse gas accounting requirements as shipping companies face tighter European and international emissions rules.
