Mitsubishi Gas Chemical to buy 100,000 tonnes of green methanol annually from ACME

July 8, 2026 |

In India, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical agreed on July 2 to buy about 100,000 tonnes of green methanol annually from an ACME Group project under development in Odisha, a state on India’s eastern coast, once commercial operations begin in 2030. The companies did not disclose the contract’s duration or value.

ACME is developing production infrastructure for the project as part of an expansion from green hydrogen and ammonia into methanol. Mitsubishi Gas Chemical plans to market the fuel and chemical feedstock in Japan and elsewhere in Asia.

The Japanese company said the methanol will have a carbon intensity designed to comply with European Union requirements and anticipated International Maritime Organization rules. The purchase will also support Mitsubishi Gas Chemical’s Carbopath platform, which promotes methanol made from captured carbon dioxide, waste plastics, biomass and other feedstocks for use in fuels and chemicals.
