Mitsubishi Shipbuilding wins order for ammonia fuel handling system

July 1, 2026 |

In Japan, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding received an order from Hitachi Zosen Marine Engine to supply an ammonia fuel handling system called MAmmoSS. The system will be installed at Hitachi Zosen Marine Engine’s plant and used to run land-based tests on ammonia-fueled marine engines built under license from Everllence SE and WinGD, two of the major engine licensors in the sector.

MAmmoSS combines an ammonia fuel supply system, an ammonia gas abatement system, and an integrated control unit designed to handle the toxic fuel safely. Mitsubishi Shipbuilding said demand for the technology is rising as shipping moves toward ammonia to cut greenhouse gas emissions under IMO decarbonization targets.

The company said it plans to keep expanding the product’s capabilities as the market for ammonia-fueled vessels grows.
