Shanghai completes first ship-to-ship methanol bunkering at anchorage

June 23, 2026 |

In China, Shanghai Observer reports the methanol bunker vessel Haijang Zhiyuan delivered 3,000 tonnes of green methanol to the container ship Han Xin Qing Mao at the Lvhuashan South anchorage on June 21, marking Shanghai Port’s first ship-to-ship methanol bunkering operation in anchorage waters and setting a national record for single-delivery volume at an anchorage.

The operation took approximately nine hours under monitoring by the Wusong Maritime Safety Administration, which said anchorage bunkering presents greater complexity than berth operations due to open water conditions and vessel traffic dynamics.

Authorities said the operation accumulated regulatory experience that will inform future methanol bunkering at anchorage and contribute to Shanghai’s development as a green international shipping center.
