U.S. soybean crushing and ethanol production mixed in april

In Washington, Brownfield Ag News reports U.S. soybean processing remained strong in April as demand for soybean meal and oil supported crushing activity. The USDA reported 218 million bushels were crushed, down from March but higher than a year ago. Soybean oil inventories increased due to higher production, while biodiesel demand remained robust and meal stocks tightened. Meanwhile, ethanol production was affected by seasonal plant maintenance, with corn use for ethanol falling 10% from March but remaining slightly above year-earlier levels. Production of distillers dried grains also declined from both the previous month and last year.
