Zhoushan grants first methanol bunkering license to PetroChina unit

January 8, 2026 |

In China, Manifold Times reports Zhoushan has issued its first license for methanol bunkering to Zhejiang PetroChina Fuel Oil, allowing the company to supply methanol fuel to international vessels. The license was granted on December 24 and is valid for three years.

The company is now in talks with shipping and shipbuilding firms to carry out its first bunkering operation. In 2025, it supplied 2.4 million metric tonnes of bonded marine fuel in Zhoushan, a 10 percent increase from the previous year.

Zhoushan is one of the country’s largest marine fuel hubs and a key bonded bunkering center under the China (Zhejiang) Free Trade Zone. The methanol license follows new guidelines introduced in July 2025 that allow methanol, LNG, LPG, and ammonia refuelling, supporting the port’s effort to expand clean fuel services.
