In the UK, Safety4sea reported that from 1 January 2026, the Port of Yokohama, in Japan, has waived port entrance fees for methanol and biofuel powered vessels, expanding its incentives for cleaner shipping.
Eligible vessels may use green methanol or e-methanol, while biofuel blends must contain a minimum bio-content of 24%, underscoring the port’s commitment to cutting emissions and advancing its goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2050, according to the report.
In parallel, Yokohama is preparing for methanol bunkering in Japan through collaborations with companies such as A.P. Moller–Maersk, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical and Idemitsu, while several shipping companies have already begun biofuel bunkering operations at the port, the report added.
