In Sweden, Northern Offshore Services announced the delivery of the world’s first crew transfer vessel powered solely by biomethanol, the M/V Transporter, a 25-meter high-speed catamaran built to serve offshore wind operations and developed in collaboration with Vestas to reduce emissions from marine service transport.
Originally an A-Class vessel converted to T-Class, Transporter seats 24 passengers and features a redesigned aluminum hull optimized for speed and efficiency. It runs exclusively on biomethanol, a renewable fuel derived from sustainable biomass, supplied in advance by Northern Energy & Supply due to tight global supply.
“We now operate the world’s first single fuel biomethanol crew transfer vessel,” said David Kristensson, Group CEO of Northern Offshore Group. “We are improving our fleet’s sustainability and setting a new standard for the maritime industry. Biomethanol represents a powerful alternative to conventional fuels, and we are proud to lead the way.”
Lisa Ekstrand, Head and VP of Sustainability at Vestas, added, “We are proud to be the first company in the wind industry to test the use of a single-fuel bio-methanol-powered CTV in our offshore service operations.” The vessel will be chartered by Vestas for emissions-reduction trials.
