Wizz Air wins global sustainability award

November 8, 2023 |

In Hungary, Hungary Today reported that local low-cost airline Wizz Air has been selected as the Global Environmental Sustainability Airline of the Year for the second consecutive time at the Center for Aviation (CAPA) Asia Aviation Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“Wizz Air has been recognized for its unwavering commitment to sustainability. CAPA rewards airlines and airports that put climate change at the heart of their business policies and strive for carbon neutrality,” the company said.

To achieve this, the company has invested heavily in its fleet, replacing older aircraft with the latest technology Airbus A321neo.

In addition, Wizz Air has already developed a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) strategy.

In 2023 the airline has invested in UK biofuel company Firefly. It has also participated in a $50 million grant to CleanJoule, a US biofuels start-up, to encourage SAF research and development.
