In Spain, Strategic Energy Europe reported that green hydrogen production has successfully begun at Viscofan’s industrial facilities in Cáseda, Navarra.
The report noted that the initiative represents a pioneering step in the energy transition of the region’s industrial sector and is part of the H2OP project, developed by a consortium comprising Viscofan, Nordex Electrolyzers, the Navarre Association of Industry (AIN), and startup Uraphex.
The project aligns with the Government of Navarra’s strategy to position green hydrogen as a key energy vector for industrial decarbonization and competitiveness, it added.
The consortium installed and commissioned a 500 kW electrolyzer, designed, manufactured, and assembled entirely in Spain by Nordex Electrolyzers, together with a water treatment and recovery plant. Integration with Viscofan’s boiler system was completed in two months.
The system enables Viscofan to produce a continuous flow of 100 Nm3 per hour of renewable hydrogen, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 480 metric tons per year, the report added.
