Verdant Earth Technologies denied planning permission for biomass power plant revamp

In Australia, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reports that Verdant Earth Technologies has been denied planning permission to revamp the mothballed former coal-fired Redbank Power Station into the country’s largest biomass power plant, using weeds and bioenergy crops as feedstock. New South Wales’ Independent Planning Commission rejection cited failure to address enviornmental concerns—95% of 600 public comments were against the project—but the company plans to fix the proposal and is considering its options.
