Veolia inaugurates France’s largest biomethane from wastewater plant

October 30, 2024 |

In France, the SIAAP (Interdepartmental Union for the Sanitation of the Paris Agglomeration) and Veolia inaugurated the largest French unit for the production of biomethane from wastewater treatment. The result of two years of studies and work, and installed at the Seine Valenton plant (94), this installation will allow each year, from 2025, to inject 45 GWh of decarbonizing energy into the GrDF network, the equivalent of the annual consumption of more than 10,000 homes.

Thanks to the Valenton unit, each year, 9,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent will be avoided in the territory.

This unit is the first in France to achieve such a treatment capacity, with a maximum injection capacity of 1,300 Nm3/h of biomethane (equivalent to the treatment of a maximum of 1,800 Nm3/h of biogas), i.e. an installed power of the unit of 11.5 MW. This performance was made possible in particular by the know-how of Biothane, a subsidiary of Veolia, which has developed a high-performance solution for purifying biogas and producing biomethane. The deployment of a Hubgrade digital solution also optimizes the intelligent management of biogas flows on the site.
