VAUDE and BASF launch biobased polyamide backpack

In Germany, outdoor brand VAUDE has partnered with BASF to unveil the TRAILCONTROL ZERO 20+, the first bike backpack made using Ultramid® ZeroPCF, a polyamide 6 with biobased, mass-balanced material. The biobased content comes from used cooking oil. The carbon footprint of the material is further reduced by BASF’s use of the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm to power production. 

 “We’re reducing the CO₂ footprint of the polyamide to zero,” Marcel Schmitt, Global Strategic Marketing at BASF, said in a press statement. “This project shows how biobased materials can drive real progress toward climate neutrality.” The backpack will debut at the K 2025 plastics trade fair in Düsseldorf in October.
