In Missouri, Brownfield reported that the USDA recently estimated that planted sorghum acres were up 6% from the initial estimate at 6.605 million acres and 1% on the year, with harvested area also expected to be 1% larger than last year at 5.675 million acres.
Sorghum production this year is pegged at 391.495 million bushels, 14% above 2024, with an average yield of 69 bushels per acre. In 2024, U.S. sorghum production was 343.85 million bushels with an average yield of 61.3 bushels per acre on planted area of 6.3 million acres and harvested area of 5.605 million acres.
The USDA sees new crop U.S. sorghum ending stocks at 43 million bushels, up 4 million from July, according to the report.
