Uruguay on track to double the area of rapeseed and carinata in the next harvest

February 2, 2025 |

In Argentina, Ambito reported that Uruguay is on track to double the area of rapeseed and carinata cultivated during the next 2025/2026 harvest with some 250,000 hectares planted, 100% more than in the 2024/2025 campaign when 125,000 hectares were reached nationwide, based on data from Urupov and IPB.

Pablo Uteda, the general manager of Nuseed Uruguay, said that the producers’ objective is to “achieve the largest possible area with hybrids” since “they are showing a yield differential that represents a better economic margin” and that for the carinata alone, the cultivated area would triple from 10,000 to 30,000 hectares.

Uteda also explained that in the last harvest the goal of 150,000 hectares of “structural” area could not be met due to delays in the sowing date, as well as poor commercial expectations.
