Uniper signs deal for 500,000 tons of green ammonia from India’s AM Green

January 14, 2026 |

In India, Germany’s Uniper signed a binding offtake agreement for up to 500,000 tons per year of renewable ammonia from India’s AM Green, with shipments expected to begin in 2028 from a one million ton per year facility under construction in Kakinada. The deal is among the largest confirmed under India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and will supply certified renewable ammonia to European buyers under Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin rules.

The Kakinada plant, backed by Gentari, GIC, and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, has already begun site work and secured key contracts with Casale, Air Liquide, Toyo, and Rely, a joint venture of Technip Energies and John Cockerill. The project is expected to avoid two million tons of carbon dioxide annually and support more than 600 local jobs.

AM Green has completed final investment decision, awarded all major contracts, and received required approvals. It now becomes one of the few large ammonia export projects worldwide that are fully permitted and under construction.
