UK’s National Gas signs MOU with Gas Networks Ireland on hydrogen and biomethane

In Ireland, National Gas signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Gas Networks Ireland (GNI) to set the foundation for closer collaboration on hydrogen and biomethane gases, and blends of these gases in the natural gas system. The MoU will enable it to share information and outcomes from its respective operational improvement activities, and to explore mutually beneficial projects. 

The agreement also outlines their shared ambition to explore a new or repurposed interconnector between the UK and Ireland, capable of transporting 100% hydrogen. While still in the early conceptual phase, they are keen to identify potential demand and supply, key barriers and regulatory changes required for the project to succeed. They welcome input from across the market in to help shape this exciting opportunity.
