UK misses its 2% SAF blending mandate in 2025 by 20%

In the UK, the Guardian newspaper reports that Department for Transport data shows that sustainable aviation fuel only accounted for 1.6% of jetfuel consumption for most of 2025, well below the 2% mandate set for its first year. Only about 35 million gallons of SAF was used between January and early October, most of which came from imported used cooking fuel from Asia, the majority originating in China. Blending is supposed to reach 10% by 2030.
