UAE GCAA launches region’s new digital platform for CORSIA implementation

December 31, 2024 |

In New York, TTN reported that The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced the region’s first digital platform dedicated to implementing the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). CORSIA, a globally adopted framework under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), was launched in 2019 to mitigate the environmental impact of aviation. The scheme helps carriers manage unavoidable carbon emissions through offset programs, complementing advances in technology and sustainable aviation fuels. The newly launched platform automates emissions reporting, a process previously handled manually, saving time and improving accuracy. The UAE has been at the forefront of aviation sustainability, adopting multiple measures to reduce its environmental impact, according to the report. A notable milestone in this effort is the Dubai Framework for Aviation Fuel, introduced in November 2023. This initiative aims to cut international aviation emissions by 5% by 2030, further cementing the UAE’s leadership in the sector. Other efforts include expanded use of SAFs aligns with CORSIA’s guidelines, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels.
