In Missouri, Brownfield reported that the U.S. Grains Council Vice President, Cary Sifferath said that the country is on track to set a new corn export record as trade negotiations move forward.
Cary Sifferath said: “There’s a lot of pieces you have to look (at), there might be 25 different countries that are making up what would have been China back in 20/20/21 marketing year when they were the big buyer the last time we set a new corn export record.”
He also noted that difficulties in Ukraine have also brought on new sales from EU partners.
“We can lower the tariff, but there’s many other different ways that a country could try to block those products,” he explains. “That continues to be in the discussions that we have as we get asked for advice from USTR, whether it’s the EU, whether it’s Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, other markets where trade discussions are still going on.”
The USDA is forecasting a record 2.75 billion bushels of corn to be exported for the 2024/2025 marketing year, according to the report.
