In Washington, Reuters reports that President Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on all imports from Brazil in retaliation for what it calls a witch hunt against former Brazilian president Bolsonaro who is currently undergoing trial for a failed coup aiming to stop current President Lula’s inauguration. A wide range of products are exported to the US, including half of the US’s orange juice supply, sugar, beef and of course ethanol that has been the source of trade tensions in recent years. Lula has promised retalitory measures.
