In China, Towngas has completed the delivery of green methanol to Singapore-based Golden Island for use in a marine fuel trial. The shipment, certified under ISCC EU standards, originated from Towngas’s Inner Mongolia facility and was transferred through Mitsubishi Corporation to Tianjin Vopak, where it was loaded onto the bunker vessel Golden Antares.
The methanol, produced from waste biomass and scrap tires, is reported to reduce carbon intensity by more than 75 percent compared to conventional marine fuel. Towngas is the first producer on the Chinese mainland to hold both ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS certifications for green methanol.
The Tianjin terminal provided both tank storage and handling infrastructure for the transfer. The operation marked a first for Golden Island and reinforced logistical cooperation between producers, traders, and terminal operators across the region.
Towngas plans to expand its Inner Mongolia plant’s annual output by 50 percent to 150,000 tonnes by year-end and is developing additional facilities with Foran Energy eventually targeting one million tonnes per year.
