In the UK, Fuell Cells Works reported that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has released the results of its first-ever green hydrogen trial transaction, a significant step in developing a market-based hydrogen trading framework. This initiative, conducted in fiscal year 2025, aims to expand the use of green hydrogen derived from renewable energy and support the city’s “Tokyo 2050 Strategy,” which targets net zero emissions, according to the report. The trial focused on two transport categories: trailer transport and cardle transport. In the bidding process, one supplier participated in each category. The winning bid price for the trailer transport course was 280 yen per Normal Lube, while the cardle transport course secured a bid price of 355 yen per Normal Lube. On the user side, two parties bid for the trailer route at 100 yen per Normal Lube, and three parties bid for the cardle route at 280 yen per Normal Lube. Under the terms of the trial, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will subsidize the difference between the supplier’s price and the user’s price to stimulate demand and encourage a vibrant hydrogen market, the report added. The green hydrogen traded in this initiative will be calculated based on actual usage compared to transported volume. For trailers, billing is determined by the hydrogen remaining in the container after each replacement, while for cardle transport, a fixed amount based on capacity is established, the report added.
