In Germany, thyssenkrupp Uhde said it has completed the Pre-FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) phase for the Portland Renewable Fuels Project in collaboration with HAMR Energy.
The project, located in Victoria, Australia, will use biomass residues and renewable electricity to produce green methanol that can be used as a low carbon liquid fuel to power shipping and aviation.
The firm noted that green methanol can be used to fuel ships, or refined into sustainable aviation fuel.
Karan Bagga, Product Manager Green Ammonia and Managing Director Australia, thyssenkrupp Uhde, said: “The completion of Pre-FEED showcases our ability to bring cutting-edge technology to Australia’s clean energy transition. This is a crucial step towards establishing a homegrown low carbon liquid fuels industry.”
