This presentation deck outlines the Virtual Institute on Feedstocks of the Future (VIFF), a collaborative initiative funded by the Schmidt Sciences philanthropy and the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR). The initiative aims to accelerate the development and use of underutilized biomass as alternative feedstocks for biomanufacturing. VIFF’s mission is achieved through five research consortia, each focusing on a specific type of bio and utilizing a variety of innovative technologies to convert it into valuable products. The consortia are addressing key challenges such as biomass heterogeneity, data availability, and process optimization, ultimately seeking to establish a circular bioeconomy that utilizes diverse, renewable resources’ effectiveness in driving innovation and addressing critical global issues.
