The Digest’s 2025 Multi-Slide Guide to Renewable Natural Gas Production via Chemical Looping Gasification

In this presentation, researchers chart the progress of a project focused on a sorbent-enhanced chemical looping gasification (SE-CLG) technology for renewable natural gas production from biomass wastes. The technology integrates biomass gasification, air separation, and syngas conditioning into a single circulating fluidized bed gasifier. The project involves designing multi-functional, mixed oxide-based phase transition sorbents (PTS) and demonstrating their ash and contaminant resistances. A 5 kWth circulating fluidized bed gasifier demonstration will validate a >35% decrease in LCOE and >10 energy return on investment. The aim is continuous operation for 100 hours and methanation of the syngas product.
