Mango Materials is addressing plastic pollution by producing Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), a biodegradable and often carbon negative material, under the brand YOPP™. This material is produced via a microbial process utilizing methane emissions, such as biogas captured from wastewater treatment facilities in California. The urgency is underscored by the observation that U.S. plastics recycling rates are declining. Mango Materials operates a Launch Facility, aiming for a long-term goal of 1 billion pounds of PHA to penetrate the global plastics market, valued at 912 billion lbs/year (2023).
