Técnicas Reunidas, Sinopec to design 4 GW green hydrogen plant in Saudi Arabia

July 31, 2025 |

In Saudi Arabia, Sharikat Mubasher reported that Spanish engineering company Técnicas Reunidas and China’s energy giant Sinopec won a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for a green hydrogen-to-ammonia plant in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.

The FEED contract will span 10 months, after which both companies are expected to offer an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) proposal valued at several billion euros.

Commissioned by Saudi firm ACWA Power, the new plant will feature 4 GW of electrolysis capacity and produce 400,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, which will then be converted into green ammonia for export. It will also include water desalination infrastructure and an export terminal to support global distribution, according to the report.
