In India, Times of India reported that the Tamil Nadu government and IIT-Madras have joined hands to scientifically manage and recycle municipal and rural solid waste using advanced technology.
The agreement was inked between the Clean Tamil Nadu Company Limited (CTCL) and IIT-M, according to the report.
Ganga Dileep, CEO of CTCL, said the collaboration with IIT-M will help in finding innovative solutions to manage solid waste across 37 districts. “We need knowledge on how we can segregate, process, and handle today’s waste as well as future waste. We plan to roll out pilot projects on localized waste segregation with districts, create a data bank of infrastructure, waste generated, and types of waste in village panchayats,” she said.
