Suntory kick-starts green hydrogen trial

October 23, 2025 |

In the UK, edie reported that Japanese company Suntory has launched a trial to replace natural gas with green hydrogen at its Minami Alps Hakushu Water Plant in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan.

Suntory’s 16MW facility has been renamed the Green Hydrogen Park, and is now producing green hydrogen from renewable electricity through its Power-to-Gas system, according to the report.

The technology leverages power from renewable energy sources to produce hydrogen through water electrolysis, and if operating 24/7 all year round, it could produce 2,200 tons of hydrogen annually, it added.

The Japanese beverage firm, pledged earlier this year to integrate green hydrogen into its own operations while also supplying local industries in Japan.
