Study shows Ukraine has some of the highest crop yield indicators

November 9, 2025 |

In Ukraine, APK Inform reported that Ukraine has some of the highest yields of grain and oilseed crops in the world, according to the results of a global study on agricultural production efficiency conducted by Agrohub in partnership with Syngenta.

The study compared key indicators of resources, costs, yields, and profitability among five leading agricultural exporting countries- Ukraine, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and Australia, during the 2021-2023 seasons. The research covered 24 companies with a total area of more than 3.5 million hectares across 26 agro-climatic regions, the report stated.

Ukraine has some of the highest yield indicators – 6 t/ha of wheat, 9.1 t/ha of corn, 2.9 t/ha of sunflower, and 3.6 t/ha of rapeseed. The yields of these crops exceed those of Argentina (wheat – 3.5 t/ha, corn – 6.9 t/ha, sunflower – 2.1 t/ha), Brazil (corn – 6.2 t/ha), and Canada (wheat – 2.8 t/ha, rapeseed – 1.8–2.0 t/ha).

“Ukraine has a number of strategic advantages that ensure its competitiveness in the global agricultural market. These include fertile soils and large areas of arable land, a favorable climate and stable yields, lower land rent and labor costs, and the potential EU accession, which could expand export markets. However, challenges remain serious: war, destruction of logistics infrastructure, high transportation costs, limited access to foreign markets, and a reduction in the labor force due to mobilization and migration. Nevertheless, analytics and effective cost management allow Ukrainian companies to remain resilient, demonstrating competitive financial performance even under crisis conditions,” said Bohdan Popovych, Head of Global Benchmarking at Agrohub.
