Stolt Tankers leans Into biofuel revolution

December 5, 2024 |

In Singapore, Manifold Times reports Stolt Tankers will power over 30 vessels in its Stolt-Nielsen Inland Tanker Service fleet with HVO20, an 80/20 biofuel blend of hydrotreated vegetable oil, expected to cut carbon emissions by 18% compared to ultra-low sulfur diesel.

“We are delighted to be undertaking this initiative to bunker renewable fuel on all our vessels this month,” said Maickel Uijtewaal, SNITS General Manager. “It underlines our commitment to exploring and implementing energy-efficiency measures where possible, and we hope it inspires our customers and others in the industry to do the same.”

In 2023, Stolt Rhine and Stolt Merwede were outfitted with SCR exhaust systems to reduce nitrogen oxides, while the SNITS fleet became a Green Award incentive provider. Earlier in 2024, Stolt Main bunkered HVO100, a 100% renewable biofuel, alongside five other vessels transitioning to biofuels during the year.
