Stena RoRo takes delivery of hybrid ferry

December 26, 2024 |

In Sweden, Stena RoRo took delivery of the Guillaume de Normandie, its twelfth E-Flexer vessel, from the CMI Jinling shipyard in China, long-term chartered to Brittany Ferries. The ferry will replace the Normandie on the Portsmouth–Caen route in April 2025, equipped with a 12 MWh battery hybrid system enabling zero-emission port operations and maneuvering.

“The large battery hybrid system we installed… means that the ship can operate optimally, in step with regulatory developments, or in accordance with the operator’s own policies,” said Per Westling, Managing Director of Stena RoRo.

The Guillaume de Normandie is designed to carry 1,300 passengers and 2,410 lane meters of cargo and supports marine gas oil, LNG, biodiesel, and biogas as fuels. It also features an 8 MW shore power connection for fossil-free port stays.

This is the fifth E-Flexer delivered to Brittany Ferries. “Within the framework of the E-Flexer concept, there has been continuous technical development and we can offer our customers flexible and future-proof propulsion systems that by a wide margin meet both today’s and future environmental requirements,” Westling added.
