In The Netherlands, Offshore Energy reports construction has begun on a new 41,000-cubic-meter dual-fuel liquefied petroleum gas carrier for Belgium-based EXMAR at the CIMC Sinopacific shipyard in China. The steel cutting ceremony for the midsize gas carrier, the third in a series of four, was held on December 30, 2024. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2026.
This carrier is part of a series acquired by EXMAR from Norway’s Avance Gas for $282.4 million. The series will enhance EXMAR’s fleet with additional capabilities and sizes, supporting its strategy to adapt to evolving market demands while integrating cleaner propulsion technologies.
In related developments, EXMAR recently launched EXMAR LPG France, a new entity to operate six dual-fuel midsize gas carriers under construction at HD Hyundai Mipo in South Korea. Among these are the world’s first oceangoing vessels equipped with dual-fuel engines capable of operating on ammonia. The first 46,000-cubic-meter vessel in this series is set for delivery in early 2025.
