In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that Sparc Technologies has confirmed that construction of its first-of-its-kind green hydrogen pilot plant remains on track and within budget, with commissioning expected in July 2025. The plant is located at the University of Adelaide’s Roseworthy Campus and is based on photocatalytic water splitting (PWS)—a method to produce hydrogen using only sunlight, water, and a photocatalyst, without requiring electrolyzers, according to the report. Sparc Hydrogen—jointly owned by Sparc Technologies, Fortescue, and the University of Adelaide—is commercializing its patented PWS process as a lower-cost, scalable, and low-electricity alternative to traditional green hydrogen production, the report added.
