In Paraguay, La Nacion reported that according to the weekly report of Paraguayan rural entity UGP, sorghum is gaining ground in productive areas of departments such as Itapúa, Alto Paraná, San Pedro, among others, as it is a crop resistant to water stress and with lower production costs compared to corn, the main rotation crop. According to the report, sorghum cultivation also represents a productive diversification in the different departments and attracts small and medium producers due to its advantages as a rotation crop, its adaptability to different soils and a crop yield of around 10,000 kilograms per hectare. Although producers recognize that its value is between 20 and 30% cheaper than corn, they point out that it has a good market and provides them with an important cash flow considering the economic difficulties caused by the drought.
