Singapore and France sign maritime pact for bio-methane bunkering, port tech

June 4, 2025 |

In Singapore, France and Singapore signed an Enhanced Maritime Partnership Agreement covering joint work on bio-methane bunkering, ship-to-shore digital systems, and maritime innovation during President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit as part of the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The agreement was formalized by French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot and Singapore’s Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow and builds on a 2021 partnership between the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and France’s Directorate General for Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Aquaculture. As part of the pact, French shipping company CMA CGM will conduct the first bio-methane bunkering trial in Singapore under a new joint certification framework.

On digitalization, MPA will partner with HAROPA PORT and Port of Marseille-Fos on port call optimization trials, including “ship-to-shore data exchange to automate and streamline port clearance processes.” MPA Chief Executive Teo Eng Dih said, “By working together, we aim to advance practical solutions that supports a more sustainable and digitally connected maritime future.”
