Shenzhen completes first green methanol bunkering

December 10, 2025 |

In China, Xinde Maritime News reports Shenzhen Port completed its first green methanol bunkering on December 3, fueling a dual-fuel container vessel with domestically produced methanol at Yantian terminal. The operation was carried out by China Marine Bunker in partnership with Shenzhen Port Group and COSCO Shipping.

This marks the first successful methanol bunkering in the Greater Bay Area and the start of Shenzhen’s role in building out green fuel supply infrastructure. Port officials said the operation filled a critical gap in regional capabilities and demonstrated that equipment, procedures, and management systems are in place to support expanded use of low-carbon fuels.

The bunkering was described as a model for scaling clean marine energy in South China and reflects a broader push to advance sustainable shipping practices through localized fuel production and delivery.
