In Iraq, bne Intellinews reports the Chinese company Shanghai SUS Environment Co. Ltd. is set to build the country’s first waste-to-energy plant in the Abu Ghraib area. The $497 million facility will process 300 metric tons of waste per day during the first phase, while in a later stage it is expected to produce 100MW of electricity from 3,000 tons of waste daily. The project should be commissioned in two years, with construction kicking off next month.
