In Mexico, Infobae reported that Mexico’s Senate approved in Committees the constitutional reform promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo that seeks to prohibit transgenic corn in the country, in order to protect native corn.

The Senate’s joint committees on Constitutional Affairs, Agriculture and First Legislative Studies approved the constitutional reform that seeks to modify articles 4 and 27 of the Constitution to protect the 59 varieties of corn and to prohibit the planting of transgenic corn.

Following this process, this initiative will have to be discussed in the Senate, and then possibly approved, according to the report.

The Lower House had previously approved the initiative.
