In California, Seaspan Energy conducted the first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering to a pure car and truck carrier at anchor in the Port of Long Beach, fueling NYK Line’s Plumeria Leader via the Seaspan Baker.

“We are extremely proud to achieve this significant milestone as the first company to complete a ship-to-ship LNG bunkering of a pure car carrier in the Port of Long Beach,” said Harly Penner, President of Seaspan Energy.

“This milestone reflects our strong commitment to decarbonizing the maritime sector,” added Kaori Takahashi, General Manager, Fuel Group, NYK LINE. “Collaborating with partners such as Seaspan Energy allows us to advance low-carbon fuel solutions and deliver on our environmental goals while ensuring operational excellence.”

The company’s LNG bunkering fleet now includes three vessels and has completed operations for tankers, cruise vessels, and container ships along the West Coast. LNG use is reported to cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 27% over its lifecycle and sharply reduce particulate, NOx, and SOx emissions.

Seaspan’s expansion supports cleaner port operations in coastal cities including Vancouver, Prince Rupert, Seattle, and Long Beach.
