RWE signs on as final buyer for Texas LNG

January 21, 2026 |

In Texas, Glenfarne’s Texas LNG project has reached full subscription after signing a binding 20-year offtake deal with German energy major RWE for one million tonnes per year. The agreement converts the last of Texas LNG’s preliminary commitments into fully executed sales contracts, clearing the way for financing and a final investment decision in early 2026.

RWE will receive about 13 LNG cargoes annually, equivalent to 1.4 billion cubic meters of gas, for distribution across Europe and global markets. The deal also includes a framework to verify emissions across the supply chain, from wellhead to loading.

Texas LNG, located at the Port of Brownsville, is designed with electric drive motors to reduce production emissions. Glenfarne positions it as one of the lowest-emitting export terminals in the sector. Kiewit will lead engineering and construction under a turnkey contract.

The project forms part of Glenfarne’s 32.8 MTPA North American LNG portfolio, which spans Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska. With offtake complete, Glenfarne shifts focus to securing financing for a facility that now has both regulatory approval and commercial backing.
