RP Global and GIZ collaborate on Argentina green hydrogen projects

December 5, 2024 |

In Argentina, RP Global and GIZ launched a partnership under Germany’s H2Uppp program to develop green hydrogen and ammonia projects in southern Argentina, targeting local use and European export markets. The initiative is backed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

The project, called “Gaucho Wind to Hydrogen & Green Ammonia,” plans to install 3 GW of electrolysers powered by a 4.2 GW wind farm, generating over 21,340 GWh annually and producing up to 1.7 million tons of green ammonia. This aligns with Argentina’s potential as a renewable energy leader and Germany’s strategy to decarbonize industries through imported green hydrogen.

The partnership includes technical and economic studies, biodiversity assessments, and regulatory analyses, with capacity-building workshops to share results. “Our goal is to create shared infrastructure that benefits local communities and the broader hydrogen sector,” said Igor Reščec, CTO of RP Global.

The collaboration aims to strengthen the global hydrogen economy while driving local development through jobs, tax revenue, and innovation. BMWK’s H2Uppp program accelerates these efforts, ensuring both nations meet their climate goals while supporting the energy transition.
