RNG Coalition releases new study on industry impact

December 22, 2024 |

In Washington, the RNG Collation released its Renewable Natural Gas Economic Impact Analysis report, and found that the RNG industry supported over 55,000 jobs and generated $7.2B in GDP in 2024. Of all feedstocks, MSW and agricultural waste projects created the largest economic impacts, and the report also found that Many jobs supported by the RNG industry in 2024 were middle-income, with an average annual salary of $66,890, and 75% of jobs supported by the RNG industry were accessible to individuals without a college degree

The report estimates the economic impact of 2024 RNG industry spending in the United States. The analysis team calculated economic impacts by estimating the annual capital expenditures and operational spending incurred by RNG facilities and value chain businesses and inputting the costs into an IMPLAN model. IMPLAN is a leading economic analysis software that uses Input-Output modeling to estimate how economic activity in one industry supports a ripple of additional activity throughout the economy. A more detailed description of the analysis methodology is included in the appendix. The report’s primary source is a dataset on RNG facility capacity and costs compiled and maintained by RNG Coalition. The dataset used in this report was up-to-date as of October 2024. Other sources are noted throughout the document and in the appendix.
