October 26, 2025 |

In Spain, Repsol has signed an eight-year agreement with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) to supply renewable marine fuels to the Port of Barcelona.

Following the start of the 2026 European cruise season, Repsol will supply biofuels and, starting in 2029, renewable methanol directly to the ships of NCLH’s various cruise brands—Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises—when they call at the Port of Barcelona.

“This agreement is a milestone that demonstrates that renewable fuels are poised to play a key role in reducing the maritime sector’s carbon footprint. By partnering with NCLH, one of the world’s leading cruise lines, we are demonstrating that renewable fuels can now be deployed at scale to immediately begin reducing emissions at sea,” said Juan Abascal, General Manager of Industrial Transformation and Circular Economy at Repsol.

The renewable methanol will be produced at Repsol’s Ecoplanta facilities in Tarragona The new plant, which will begin operations in 2029, will have the capacity to process up to 400,000 tons of municipal solid waste per year and convert it into 240,000 tons of renewable fuels and circular products, Repsol said.
