Repsol produces 100% renewable gasoline at industrial scale

October 9, 2025 |

In Spain, Repsol has achieved a new technological milestone by producing gasoline of 100% renewable origin on an industrial scale. This milestone, made in its complex in Tarragona, places Spain and the company at the forefront in energy transition.

This new product, of 100% renewable origin, is compatible with gasoline vehicles, without the need for modifications. Its use reduces net CO2 emissions by more than 70% compared to conventional gasoline. The Nexa 95 gasoline origin 100% renewable – the highest quality product of 95 Repsol octanes – is now available in 20 service stations in the Community of Madrid and Catalonia, and it is expected to have 30 by the end of this year, in cities such as Tarragona, Valencia, Zaragoza and Bilbao.

Repsol thus begins the expansion of its supply of renewable fuels, by adding this new product to Diesel Nexa 100% renewable origin, demonstrating that the decarbonization of transport through renewable liquid fuels is viable in combustion engines, whether gasoline, diesel or hybrid. These vehicles represent 97% of the Spanish and European mobile fleet and 87% of sales in Spain so far this year.

Repsol already has the first plant in the Iberian Peninsula that produces 100% renewable fuels on a large scale in Cartagena, specifically, sustainable fuel for aviation (SAF) and renewable diesel. In 2026, it will add a second plant in its center of Puertollano, with capacity to produce about 200,000 tons of 100% renewable fuel for road and maritime mobility annually.

The innovative process for manufacturing renewable gasoline on an industrial scale carried out by Repsol in Tarragona is the result of the more than 20 years that the company has been researching and producing renewable fuels in its different modalities, and has been developed by scientists of the group in collaboration with Honeywell. In addition, the gasoline Nexa 95 origin 100% renewable incorporates an exclusive formulation, custom designed in the technological center of the company, Repsol Technology Lab, to make the most of the engine’s performance and keep it in optimal conditions.
